Stowmarket Traditional Music Day (see attached poster)

East Anglian Traditional Music Trust works from an office in Stowmarket. We collect and archive music, stories, songs, dance, and jig dolls relating to traditional music in the East Anglian region. We hold events each year where we encourage the general public to come along and through music and storytelling they can learn about their region’s history. We also run workshops for instrument playing, understanding and working jig dolls, and stepdancing.

This year our big event is Stowmarket Traditional Music Day. With grants from the Mid Suffolk District Council and Stowmarket Town Council we are able to give the public a daytime of free events all based in venues in the town centre of Stowmarket, (Concerts, Sessions, Workshops, Talks, Jig Dolls). To liven up the High Street and Meadow Centre 15 or more Morris dancing teams, rappers, stepdancers and a story teller will be wandering. We will also be featuring some of Stowmarket’s singing groups and a local school’s recent work as part of “Stowmarket on Show”, a project run by EATMT and supported by Mid Suffolk District Council’s Community Development Fund.

Naturally we are endeavouring to attract as many local people as possible to benefit from this free enjoyable and interesting event and would be very grateful if you could help promote it by putting the attached poster on your parish noticeboard(s). If you would prefer me to deliver you a copy of the poster please let me know.

There is a charge for evening concerts.
